A Loveable Undertaking with Austria

Austria may be the home of Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Von Trapp family, but the most loved and profitable export of the country are their desserts. While it is true that they have mouthwatering, healthy meals that are especially good during the cold winter season, Austrian food is often synonymous with sweet pastries and cakes. This confirms that Austria's coffee houses and bakeshops are as renowned as other landmarks, with sweet tooth fanatics almost groveling and salivating outside their display windows.

Of all the desserts in Austria, my number one preference is the Dobusch torte. It is a cake layered and slathered with luscious and sweet caramel finish and chocolate frosting. It tastes delightful, with the chocolate icing melting softly in your mouth like butter, as it bursts into an explosion that converts your senses into haywire. The first time I was able to get my hands on one of those, I instantly lasped into silence -- it was as if time stopped. Of course, there are other fantastic tasting desserts like the vanillekipferl, which are cookies covered in sugar; Sacher Torte, which is just like the Dobusch torte, except that it has some apricot jam in it; and the Heisse Schokolade, a serving of hot chocolate served with homemade whipped cream. Once you get a test of these delicious treasures, you'd find yourself singing that the hills are really alive with the sound of music.
